Message Board Upgrade

The AODOJO Message Board will be inaccessible or in a locked state from 3:45am to 5am EST today to upgrade to the latest version, which will bring forth a slew of awesome features, such as Captcha to prevent spammers.
Edit: Conversion is taking longer than expected, so I'm pushing back the expected up time to 6:30am. -DM

Around 1530, System Time, the winners of the Housepet Socials were announced by Umlaut.
First place winner: Nemori - Received one pet cat adoption voucher.
Second place winners: Elynril and Lixue - Both received a year's supply of pet food, exchangeable for three strange coins.
Third place winners: Azureus, Blitzen, Calum, and Renata - All received a choice of any pet accessory up to ten Reward Units' worth or two strange coins.
Everybody else who has sent in an entry will receive a free copy of the catalog listing the new socials and emotes for pets upon availability.

6th September: Added Equipment Sets. It's not yet fully completed yet, and may see a lot of changes for the upcoming future. It's pretty interesting, as a few sets that are already implemented do have certain advantages.
30th September: Following the reboot are a couple of crashes and possible bug with the addition of, you guessed it, Pirates. Some fountains, furniture and items were missing after the second reboot on October 1st.
I suffered from mistaken duplicated items being deleted but they were easy to recover.
All in all, good tidings usually bring good news. So we hope for the best! :)

New Psi Spells

[DISCUSS] Two new psionic spells are being added to the game:
cancellation
This spell is like a weaker version of the wizard's silence. As an additional parameter to casting the spell, you have to specify a school (i.e. necromancy to prevent the caster from using enervation). However, if the caster attempts to cast from that school enough times, the effect will fall. It is quite expensive however - at the time of writing costing an astral and 2 gems.
nullification
Depending on how this is implemented, it can be the tweak psionics need to bring them on par with other mage classes such as wizards. This effectively blocks casts of dispel magic, a spell that is commonly used in PVP to strip beneficial effects off an opponent (sanctuary and haste come to mind here). Against certain archon hunters however, their version of dispel can effectively cancel the effect in one shot. Still, any attempt to mitigate mob dispel-kill combo is welcome. It does require a focusing crystal though, so this spell is situational and isn't something a psionic wants to be spamming.
The spells should be better named though, as both words have similar meanings.
Server Upgrade, but no Pirates

As taken from the System News:
We will be performing a system-wide server upgrade Wednesday night on
6/20/2007 starting at approximately 12:30am CST (technically, very early
Thursday morning on 6/21/2007) and lasting an hour and a half, until 2:00am
CST (Central Standard Time). The upgrade should result in increased game
performance and speed. This website will remain online most of the time
during this process, but the game will be offline.
Please note that we will not be performing the long-awaited code upgrade
(not much longer now, though) to version 4.12 during this server update.

Arrr! There be Changes Afoot!

Sources close to the administrators of Materia Magica have announced that with the upcoming reboot, NPC pirates will be hunting the noble players of the realm upon the many seas of Alyria.
While little was discussed about their nature, it is believed that they will be aggressive (only in SPK waters), in great number, and they will have what are being called "Pirate Hideouts" that they will flee to when losing combat or otherwise being chased.
A few of the Pirate Hideouts are listed below, however it has been made clear that there are other hideouts throughout Alyria and the Alyrian Underground:
Daggerwind Reef - Located at 2090, 1388 (Alyria)
Three-Bearded Jake's - Located at 908, 824 (Underground)
Pelican's Demise - Located at 1580, 938 (Alyria)
I'll have Saga update the Sextant Locations page and the Locator after the reboot.
