Every Hero who wishes to aspire to a higher level of power must complete the Domain of Arbaces, located on the final floor of the Proving Grounds. Upon completion of this elusive quest, the Hero earns the well-deserved title of Archon. These creatures are frozen at level 241, but class level begins at 61 and rises from there. Here is a step by-step guide to accomplishing this daunting task.

Pre-DoA
Before attempting the Domain of Arbaces, stock up on reagents. If your primary weapon does not have the 'nodecay' flag, make sure you stock up on weapons too. The mobs in Arbaces have a LOT of HP and your weapon will probably wear down fast. Now go to any questmaster and type 'class newclass archon' and you will be given a key. Don't die with this key, or it will disappear and you'll have to request for another one later.

Proving Grounds
If you have a PG gemstone, you can bypass the moat and go directly into the entrance of the Proving Grounds. Just equip it and type 'use gem'. If you don't have one handy, you can find a nexus that leads there (there are usually a few around) or walk there yourself. The sextant location for Wizardry Isle is 1281, 738. From there go through the castle moat and enter the Proving Grounds. You will have to findthe way to the final floor; I suggest by eating roots since finding the exit down on each floor can be a hassle. (From the first floor of PG, you need to eat 17 roots to reach the final.) Once you are on the final floor, explore until you find another exit down. You will find yourself in a room with a statue. Unlock the door north with your key - if you somehow lost your key you might get lucky if you 'search' at the entrance. Players like hiding extra keys there. Or if you already have an artifact from a previous trip to Arbaces, just say 'enter' and the statue will let you in. After you go in, be careful not to eat any roots (to descend a level) when you're at the mist floor (level 6) or below, or else you will die.

Inside Arbaces
The very top floor is just a prelude to the floors below. There are many tablets here - I suggest you read them all as they give helpful hints on how to kill the mobs you will soon face. Find the path down and you will reach level 1.

Level 1
Kill the Frostbiter, Panther, and Fish. Each one has an item. Return these 3 items to the Queen of Tides to get the Seashell Bracelet.

Level 2
Kill the Giant Slug and obtain the Antenna. Beware his web spell, he'll do an obvious emote before casting this.

Level 3
Find Magic Truffles (trees drop them, you can also 'search' for them) and return them to the Vine. You will receive the Heart of Forest.

Level 4
Find and kill the Fire Wyrm. Even though this mob is only on the fourth level, some consider this the most powerful being in Arbaces. Beware. After you kill the Wyrm, you will get the Ring of Fire.

Level 5
There will be 3 different mobs on this level each with 3 different gems. Kill all 3 and return the gems to the Crystal Dragon. He'll give you a Prismatic Gem.

Level 6
Look for the Ethereal Mist on this level. Kill him and you will get the Shroud of Mist.

Level 7
Almost done... find and kill the Cyclone Void to receive the Hurricane Helm.

Level 8
Again, there will be 3 different mobs - but this time each one carries a different tablet. Look for the Ancient One and give the tablets to him, in this order: silver, bronze, gold. You will get a humble Dusty Jacket. Look for the last exit down.

Level 9
You are done! Follow the path and you will receive one of two vials, upholding your beliefs of either good or evil. Return to a questmaster and type 'class newclass archon' again. Congratulations, you're an Archon!

Memory drain, telesmatic force, disrupt sight, forget, induce aggression, spook, most of the telekinetic spells, teleview, confusion, insanity, and immobilize all check against mental resistance.
